Sun Devil men's tennis hosts ASU Spring Invitational

The Arizona State men’s tennis team will host its first annual ASU Spring Invitational this weekend. Athletes from Illinois, Rice and Texas will join the Sun Devils in the invitational which will last from Friday January 11 through Sunday January 13. There will be two flights with a champion from each flight.

The first flight on Friday and Saturday will begin at 9 a.m. with the second one starting at 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday’s matches will be at the Whiteman Tennis Center. The first flight on Sunday will begin at 9 a.m. at the Whiteman Tennis Center but the second flight will start at 11 a.m. and will be located at the Camelback Village Racquet and Health Club at 4444 E. Camelback Road in Phoenix. The cross-streets are 44th St. and Camelback Rd.

This weekend’s tournament will feature some of the nation’s top collegiate athletes. Illinois is coming off an NCAA finalist appearance last season. Rice will bring to the courts Bruno Rosa, who is expected to be one of college’s top competitors. Texas is currently ranked No. 7 in ITA’s preseason poll. The Sun Devils return 2007 All-Pac-10 First Team selection Juan Carlos Rebaza and 2007 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year Matt Brooklyn to the 2008 squad.

Friday:
First Flight: 9 a.m. (Whiteman Tennis Center)
Second Flight: 1 p.m. (Whiteman Tennis Center)
Saturday:
First Flight: 9 a.m. (Whiteman Tennis Center)
Second Flight: 1 p.m. (Whiteman Tennis Center)
Sunday:
First Flight: 9 a.m. (Whiteman Tennis Center)
Second Flight: 11 a.m. (Camelback Village Racquet and Health Club)
