Sun Devil soccer plays No. 5 Stanford to a 0-0 tie

by

TEMPE, Ariz. - In the final home match of the regular season, the Arizona State women's soccer team tied No. 5 Stanford, 0-0, in double overtime. The Sun Devils are now 3-2-1 in the Pac-10 and 9-7-1 overall while the Cardinal is 2-1-2 in the Pac-10 and 11-2-3 on the season.

"We played very well against a very good team," said ASU head coach Kevin Boyd. "We came out and matched them head to head. This was a dead even game. Both teams had their chances but were unable to get a goal. Our 8-3 advantage in corner kicks gives an idea of how we were attacking out there."

At the half both teams were even in shots (5), saves (1) and fouls (7), while the Sun Devils held a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Without either team putting one in the net during regulation, the game went into a pair of extra 10-minute stanzas. ASU had several opportunities in both overtime periods (out shot Stanford 5-1) but was unable to get the goal that would have given it the win.

ASU sophomore goalkeeper Briana Silvestri had three saves in the match, which was the final home game for ASU seniors Courtney Crane, Kyleyn Felts, Lara Kezer, Lauren Niblett and Alissa Oldenkamp.

Up next, the Sun Devils travel to Los Angeles to face top-ranked UCLA on Friday, Nov. 2. Game time is set for 7 p.m. PT from Drake Stadium.
