Women's tennis to send three to NCAA Individual Championships

Three members of the Arizona State women’s tennis team have been selected to compete in the NCAA Individual Championship. Nadia Abdala and Kelcy McKenna have been selected to compete in the singles bracket. McKenna will also team up with partner Micaela Hein in the doubles championship. The singles and doubles competition will be held in College Station, Texas, May 20-25.

McKenna is currently ranked eighth by the ITA. McKenna, who finished the regular season 32-12, won the ITA All-American Championship in October. She has notched wins against top-25 opponents such as No. 1 Maria Mosolova (Northwestern), No. 2 Aurelija Miseviciute (Arkansas), No. 6 Fani Chifchieva (Auburn), No. 14 Yasmin Schnack (UCLA), No. 16 Melanie Gloria (Fresno State), No. 21 Maria Sanchez (USC), No. 22 Amanda McDowell (Georgia Tech) and No. 24 Laura Vallverda (Miami).

Playing in the No. 2 slot the majority of the season, No. 46 Nadia Abdala has earned six wins over ranked opponents this season.

McKenna and Hein are currently ranked 21st. The sophomore duo has garnered eight wins over ranked opponents including two in top 10 upsets.

The Sun Devils will head to Los Angeles next week to compete against UNLV in the first round of the NCAA Championship.
